Tall rectangular blocks of cream and soft ivory stack and shift across this square canvas. Between them, glimpses of camel, cognac, rust and deep umber show through, the way darker material surfaces on an old plastered wall as its pale coat wears thin. The geometry is deliberately loose. Edges wander, some blocks sit smooth and luminous, and others look scraped or stained by earth tones.
The surface is worked by hand with a palette knife, leaving raised ridges and uneven transitions in place. From a distance the piece reads as calm and architectural. Up close, the impasto gives it a tactile, weathered character in the spirit of wabi-sabi. It sits easily with wood, linen, stone and pared-back modern furniture, and side or natural light brings out the texture best.
