Broad horizontal strokes of black and charcoal move across a pale ivory ground in this hand-painted abstract landscape. Soft gray passages blur the line between dark and light, so the horizon reads less as an edge and more as a gradual fading, like a far shoreline under heavy cloud. The subject is left open, and each viewer will find a slightly different place in it.
At a distance the canvas feels calm and spare. Up close, palette-knife marks, scraped edges, layered washes and fine raised texture show the hand behind it. The elongated panoramic format suits a long wall above a sofa, bed, fireplace or sideboard, and the restrained palette sits easily with walnut, oak, travertine, linen and cream upholstery. Because each piece is painted by hand, expect small variations in brushwork, texture and tone from the image shown.
