Desert air is very dry for most of the year, and solid wood shrinks as it loses moisture. A piece made for a humid climate can open at the joints or crack across a wide top in its first Arizona winter. For large dining and coffee tables we often suggest a stone top in travertine or marble on a wood or metal base. Stone suits desert architecture and does not move with the seasons. If you want a solid wood top, tell us the house is in Arizona and we will go through the species and finish that suit it.
