Deep green hills fall away toward a strip of distant blue water, and above them a broad sky of layered clouds takes up much of the canvas. The palette stays muted and natural: sage, soft olive, dusty blue and warm ivory, with darker slopes in the foreground giving way to lighter tones near the horizon.
The paint is applied by hand with a palette knife, so the clouds and hillsides carry real raised texture that catches light from the side. The sea is handled with calmer horizontal strokes, a quiet counterpoint to the rugged terrain.
The soft palette sits easily with pale oak, walnut, linen, stone and neutral upholstery, and it holds up well at larger sizes above a sofa, bed or sideboard without crowding the room.
