This chandelier gathers hand-blown glass spheres in smoky gray around a brass frame with a gold finish. The color is in the glass itself, and the globes vary from milky to more translucent, so the cluster reads with real depth. As with any hand-blown glass, each globe carries small variations in tone and shape.
The gray responds to the light inside it. With warm white lamps at 2700K, each globe glows a soft café tone at its center, while cooler light leaves the glass looking flat and steely. Warm lamping is part of how this piece is meant to be seen. Light travels through the globes in every direction for an even ambient glow, and with eighteen lamps it can carry a room on its own. Over a desk or kitchen counter, add task lighting.
At 80 cm wide, it sits well over a round or square table of about 140 to 180 cm (55 to 71 in), in a living room of roughly 4 × 5 m (13 × 16 ft), or in a large bedroom. Its 100 cm height gives it considerable volume, so a ceiling with some height suits it best. Over a table, hang the bottom 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35 in) above the surface.
