Nineteen spheres gather along a single central spine in this vertical chandelier, the largest at the crown and each one smaller as the column descends. The result reads as a slow fall of light, best suited to rooms with real height: double-height entries, two-story stairwells, great rooms, lobbies and dining rooms with tall ceilings.
Choose spheres of solid Spanish alabaster, each carved, hollowed and finished individually, or hand-blown glass swirled with amber, cream and soft brown. The stone pieces are intentionally mixed, so deeply veined spheres sit next to softer, more translucent ones. The glass offers a similar look with less weight, a more uniform translucency and a warmer, lantern-like glow. With either material you can request more pattern, less pattern, or leave the selection to us. Because every sphere carries its own lamp, the fixture gives a soft, ambient light from many points rather than one bright source. Over a dining table, plan on separate task lighting if you want a brighter surface.
Details
- Dimensions: 113 cm (44.5 in) high, 81 cm (32 in) wide
- Spheres: 19, roughly 7 cm (2.8 in) to 14 cm (5.5 in) in diameter
- Sphere options: solid Spanish alabaster or hand-blown marbled glass
- Frame options: solid unlacquered brass, which darkens gradually with age, or matte black stainless steel, which keeps its finish
- Lamping: 19 candelabra bulbs, E12 or E14; warm white LED at 2700K recommended to bring out the color in the stone or glass (bulbs not included)
- Installation: hardwired; requires structural blocking at the mounting point and should be secured to a joist or reinforced blocking by an electrician. The alabaster version weighs more than the glass.
- Placement: in a stairwell, let the lowest sphere end near mid-stair height. Over a dining table, use in rooms with ceilings of about 3.7 m (12 ft) or more and hang the lowest sphere 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35 in) above the tabletop.
Care
Turn the fixture off and allow the bulbs to cool first. Dust alabaster with a soft, dry cloth only, without water or cleaners. Glass can be wiped with a damp microfiber cloth and a small amount of mild glass cleaner applied to the cloth. Clean the brass or steel frame with a soft, dry cloth and no polish.
