This hand-painted abstract canvas works in deep browns and charcoal that slowly give way to a warm bronze glow near the upper center. There is no hard edge between dark and light. The colors drift into one another, so the brighter passage seems to surface from beneath the shadow, the way dawn shows itself before the sun clears the horizon.
Fine granular marks and layered pigment give the surface a weathered, earthen character in keeping with wabi-sabi sensibilities. Viewers may read it as a dusky landscape, oxidized metal or an old plastered wall. The vertical format suits a narrow wall, the space between windows or the area above a console or sideboard. Its palette sits easily with walnut, linen, natural stone and brass. Tones can also read warmer or deeper depending on the light in your room.
