Two Canadians. Ten years of North American furniture expertise. A belief that Panama's growing design market deserved better than what was available — and the experience to actually deliver it.

Where It Started

A Decade Built Around Furniture and Design

Before Marcelina existed, we spent over a decade working within the Canadian furniture and interior design industry. That time gave us something that cannot be shortcut — a real understanding of what separates a piece that looks good from a piece that actually works. The frame that holds. The fabric that survives a household. The dimension that fits the room rather than just fitting a catalogue page.

We worked across residential and commercial projects — private homes, boutique hotels, restaurants, offices. We learned what clients actually need versus what they think they want. We learned which suppliers could be trusted and which could not. We learned that the most important part of delivering a great piece of furniture happens long before production begins.

That knowledge became the foundation of everything Marcelina is built on.

Canada

First Years in the Industry

We entered the furniture world through interior design — working alongside designers, suppliers, and manufacturers to understand how great spaces are actually built.

Growth

Residential & Commercial Projects

Over ten years we worked across private homes, boutique hotels, and commercial spaces — developing the process, the supplier relationships, and the standards that define our work today.

Decision

The Move to Panama

We saw a market with real demand and significant gaps — clients who wanted quality bespoke furniture but had limited access to it. We had the expertise. The decision became obvious.

2024

Marcelina Opens in Panama City

In September 2024, Marcelina Furniture Studio launched — bringing North American design standards, vetted supplier relationships, and a fully custom process to the Panamanian market.

Today

1,000+ Pieces. 200+ Clients. 50+ Countries.

We have grown faster than we projected — because the demand was real. Every piece still goes through the same process. Every client still gets the same attention.

What We Brought With Us

North American Expertise, Applied Here

Moving markets does not mean starting over. It means applying what you know to a context that needs it. Here is what ten years in Canada gave us — and what we brought to Panama.

Vetted Supplier Networks

A decade of working with manufacturers taught us who can be trusted to deliver consistently — on quality, on timeline, and on specification. We brought those relationships with us.

Design Process Discipline

North American interior design culture is rigorous — detailed briefs, material sign-offs, staged approvals. We built our process around these standards, not the shortcut version.

Material Intelligence

We know which fabrics hold up in humid climates, which wood species perform outdoors, and which finishes look good for a decade rather than a year. That knowledge applies directly here.

Client Management Standards

How you manage a commission matters as much as how you execute it. The communication cadence, the expectation-setting, the post-delivery follow-up — we built this into the studio from day one.

Why Panama

A Market That Was Ready for This

Panama City is one of the fastest-growing urban markets in Latin America. International residents, local professionals, boutique hotels, and growing commercial developments — all with serious design ambitions and a rising expectation for quality.

What was missing was a studio with the expertise to match that ambition. Most of what was available locally was either mass-produced imports or custom work without the process rigour to deliver consistently. We saw a gap between what the market wanted and what it could access.

We did not come to Panama to adapt our standards. We came to apply them — fully, without compromise — in a market where they were needed.

The Quality Gap

Premium bespoke furniture was either imported at significant cost or unavailable entirely. Clients with high expectations had nowhere local to go.

The Process Gap

Custom furniture was available, but without the brief discipline, material expertise, and communication standards that a serious commission requires.

The Expertise Gap

Local knowledge of materials — particularly what performs in Panama's tropical climate — was limited. Getting outdoor fabric or wood selection wrong is a costly mistake we help clients avoid.

The Trust Gap

Clients ordering custom furniture needed a studio they could rely on to deliver what was agreed — on spec, on time, and with accountability after delivery. That reputation takes years to build. We brought ours with us.

Where We Are Now

Still the Same Studio. Significantly Larger Reach.

Marcelina has grown faster than we anticipated — because the demand was real and the market was underserved. What started as a Panama City studio now delivers to over 50 countries. We have completed residential commissions, boutique hotel fit-outs, and commercial projects across the region and beyond.

The growth has not changed how we work. Every commission still starts with a conversation. Every piece still goes through the same production and inspection process. Every client still receives the same level of attention — whether they are ordering a single armchair or furnishing an entire property.

We are proud of what we have built. We are more focused on what comes next.

Start a Conversation
