What’s the difference between custom and store-bought furniture?

Store-bought is made to a price point and a standard size, often with engineered cores and veneers. Custom is made to your specification — your dimensions, materials and finish — in solid wood, natural stone or your choice of upholstery. When is custom worth the cost — and when is it not?

Worth it: statement and heirloom pieces (dining tables, sofas, beds, stone pieces), awkward spaces, and anything you want in a specific size or material. Less so: purely functional or trend pieces you’ll replace in a year. If you’ll keep it and see it daily, custom pays back.

Is custom furniture better quality than retail?

In construction, almost always — you choose the materials, so you know exactly what you’re paying for: solid hardwood, genuine stone, performance fabric, joined to last. Retail “luxury” is often the same markup on limited sizes and materials.

Is a custom piece a good investment?

How much does custom furniture cost?

It depends on the piece, size and materials — a solid-wood side table sits at one end, a large natural-stone dining table at the other. Why is custom furniture expensive?

You’re paying for solid materials, real craftsmanship and a piece made once to your exact spec — not a factory run of thousands. Because we’re the maker with our own workroom (no middleman, no showroom markup), you often get better value than comparable high-end retail.

Is it cheaper or more expensive than high-end retail?

Frequently better value. Retail “luxury” adds a showroom markup to standard sizes and materials. Buying direct from the maker means your exact piece — your size, your stone, your fabric — often at a comparable or lower price, built to last longer — more in custom vs. the alternatives.

How does payment work — is there a deposit?

For most commissions it’s simple: a 50% deposit secures your piece and reserves your production slot, and the remaining 50% is due before shipping. For larger commissions over $10,000, payment is staged in three parts — 40% to begin, 30% mid-build and 30% before delivery. You’ll have a clear, all-in quote up front, with no surprises.

Do you offer financing or payment plans?

We don’t offer third-party financing. Standard commissions are split 50% deposit and 50% before delivery; larger commissions over $10,000 are staged across three payments (40% / 30% / 30%), which spreads the cost over the build.

The process & timeline

How does the custom furniture process work?

Four steps: (1) tell us what you’re picturing — a room, a reference, rough dimensions; (2) we design and quote — drawings, materials, an all-in price and timeline; (3) you approve; (4) we build to order and deliver white-glove, duties prepaid. Start by booking a consultation.

How long does custom furniture take to make and deliver?

Most pieces are made to order in about 10–16 weeks, depending on the piece and materials, plus delivery. You get an exact lead-time window with your quote before you commit.

Will I see a design before you build it?

Yes. You approve the design, dimensions, materials and finish before anything goes into production — nothing is built until you’ve signed off.

Can I make changes after I approve the design?

Before production begins, yes — we refine until it’s right. Once materials are cut and the build is underway, changes may not be possible, which is exactly why we confirm everything first.

Can I order custom furniture online, without visiting a showroom?

Yes — most of our clients commission remotely. We handle design, approvals and material selection by email and WhatsApp, and deliver white-glove to your door anywhere in the US. No showroom visit required.

Materials & quality

Solid wood vs. veneer — how do I tell the difference?

Veneer is a thin wood layer over particleboard or MDF; solid wood is solid all the way through and lasts generations. We build in solid hardwoods (and real stone, metal and performance textiles). Always ask a maker exactly what’s under the surface — we’ll tell you plainly.

What materials do you use, and can I choose?

Yes — solid woods (oak, walnut, teak), natural stone (marble, travertine, onyx), metals, glass, and performance fabrics and leathers. You choose the material, the finish and, for stone, often the exact slab. See custom stone furniture.

Is it real marble/travertine/stone, or faux?

Real. Our stone pieces are genuine marble, travertine and onyx — solid stone, or a real stone top on a solid base — never faux, resin or “stone-look” laminate.

How durable is custom furniture and how long will it last?

Built to last decades. Solid materials and proper joinery are what separate a piece you keep from one you replace. With simple care (and periodic sealing for stone), these are heirloom pieces.

Can I get material and finish samples before I decide?

For larger commissions we send physical material and finish samples so you can see the wood, stone or fabric in your own space and light before we build. For single pieces we guide your choice with detailed photography, slab images and video.

Fit, size & design

Can you build to my exact dimensions?

Yes — every piece is made to your exact dimensions, down to the centimetre. That’s the whole point of custom.

Will it fit through my door, up my stairs, or in my elevator?

We plan delivery access with you before we build, and our white-glove team carries, assembles and places the piece inside — so it arrives and fits without stress.

Can you match my existing furniture or a photo I love?

Yes — bring a reference, a photo or an existing piece and we’ll design to complement or match it in wood tone, finish and proportion.

Can you design a piece from scratch if I only have an idea?

Yes — if it doesn’t exist yet, we design it. Bring a sketch, a description or just a need, and our studio designs the piece around your space and how you’ll use it.

Do you help with design, or can I work with a designer?

Design is part of every commission. We also partner with interior designers and architects through our trade program.

Trust & risk

How do I know a custom furniture maker is reputable?

Look for a real portfolio of finished work, genuine reviews, a clear process, and a maker who owns their production rather than reselling. We build in our own workrooms and manage every commission end to end — see our portfolio.

What’s your warranty or guarantee?

Every piece is covered by an 18-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, extended to 3 years on solid-wood pieces. If something isn’t right within that time, we make it right.

What if I don’t like it — can I return it?

Because each piece is made to order to your specification, commissions are non-refundable once production begins. There is a short cancellation window after ordering (before materials are cut), and we cover transit damage. Full terms are in our refund policy.

What questions should I ask a custom furniture maker before ordering?

Ask: exactly what materials (species, grade, solid vs. veneer, real vs. faux stone)? What’s the lead time, and what happens if it slips? Do I approve a design first? What’s the deposit and cancellation policy? What warranty is included? How is it delivered, and who handles duties? A good maker answers all of these plainly — and so do we.
