tiered-cognac-rattan-drum-chandelier
Tiered Cognac Rattan Drum Chandelier

This chandelier is built from five stacked bands of rattan in a warm cognac tone, a color that falls somewhere between caramel and terracotta. The bands step outward toward the middle and pull back in at the crown and the base, giving the drum a soft, rounded profile. It hangs on a link chain from a round canopy, both finished in a bronze tone that matches the fiber.

The basket weave is open, so the bulbs inside shine through the gaps as well as the rattan itself. The result is a filtered, amber glow and a woven pattern of light and shadow thrown onto nearby walls and ceiling. Treat it as ambient lighting. Over a kitchen island where you prep food, plan on separate task lights. Because each shade is woven by hand, expect small differences in spacing and tension from one to the next. Cognac pairs well with walnut, linen, clay tile and warm plaster finishes.

Choosing a size

The 28" version works over a round table roughly 39 to 51" wide, or in a bedroom or entry. The 40" version suits dining tables of 71" or more, living rooms and open floor plans, where it becomes the room's main fixture. Above a table, set the bottom band 30 to 35" over the surface. Where people walk underneath, leave at least 7 ft of clearance.

Details

Material: Woven rattan in cognac

Hardware: Round canopy and link chain in a bronze tone

Small: Ø 71 cm | 28" diameter, 51 cm (20") high, approx. 4 to 6 kg (9 to 13 lb)

Large: Ø 102 cm | 40" diameter, 66 cm (26") high, approx. 8 to 11 kg (18 to 24 lb)

Bulbs: One E26 socket on the small size, three on the large (E27 outside North America); bulbs not included

Recommended bulbs: LED in 2700K warm white, which stays cool against the fiber and brings out the rattan's color

Chain: Cut to suit your ceiling height, including tall and double-height rooms

Dimming and sloped ceiling adapter: Available as options

Installation: Hardwired; have a licensed electrician install it

Use: Indoors, in dry rooms

Care

Remove dust with a soft, dry brush, or use a vacuum's brush attachment at low suction.
