linear-alabaster-cylinder-and-brushed-brass-chandelier
Linear Alabaster Cylinder and Brushed Brass Chandelier

This linear chandelier sets a row of small alabaster cylinders along two parallel brass rails. Some rise from the lower rail while others hang from the upper one, and every cylinder holds its own lamp, so when lit the fixture reads as a line of softly glowing points, much like candles on a long table.

The stone is solid Spanish alabaster, polished, with each cylinder standing 16 cm (6.3") tall. Cylinders are deliberately mixed, so deeply veined pieces sit next to paler, milkier ones. The rails, canopy and hardware are solid brass in a brushed finish with no lacquer, which lets the metal deepen into a warm patina with age. A champagne fabric sleeve covers the upper part of the suspension. A black version pairs stainless steel with a black fabric sleeve.

Alabaster picks up the color of the light inside it. Warm white at 2700K brings out honey and cream tones and rich veining, while cooler lamps leave the stone looking gray and flat. The light is gentle and spread along the full length, well suited to dining. Over a working kitchen island, plan on separate task lighting as well.

Details

Sizes: 85 cm (33.5"), 100 cm (39.4"), 120 cm (47.2") long

Materials: solid Spanish alabaster cylinders; solid brass rails, canopy and hardware in brushed, unlacquered finish

Alternate finish: black stainless steel with black fabric sleeve

Cylinder height: 16 cm (6.3")

Suspension: 60 cm (23.6") standard, with champagne fabric sleeve on the upper length

Lamps: G4, 14 on the 85 cm, 18 on the 100 cm, 22 on the 120 cm

Recommended bulbs: warm white LED, 2700K, about 1 to 2 W each (not included)

Weight: about 10 kg (22 lb) for 85 cm, 14 kg (31 lb) for 100 cm, 17 kg (37 lb) for 120 cm

Installation: hardwired; must be anchored to a ceiling joist or reinforced blocking by an electrician

85 cm sizing: tables of roughly 140 to 180 cm (55 to 71") seating four to six, or islands of about 1.8 to 2.1 m (6 to 7 ft)

100 cm sizing: tables of roughly 180 to 220 cm (71 to 87") seating six to eight, or islands of about 2.1 to 2.4 m (7 to 8 ft)

120 cm sizing: tables of roughly 220 to 260 cm (87 to 102") seating eight to ten, or islands of about 2.7 to 3 m (9 to 10 ft)

Hanging height: bottom of fixture 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35") above the table or island surface

Care

Turn the fixture off and give the lamps time to cool first.
