tiered-amber-glass-disc-and-brass-ring-chandelier
Tiered Amber Glass Disc and Brass Ring Chandelier

Two tiers of amber glass discs circle a solid brass ring, with a matching amber bowl suspended at the center below. Because each disc is hand-blown, no two share quite the same depth of color, surface texture or translucency. The tone is a rich honey that pairs naturally with walnut, leather, stone and warm painted walls, lending the fixture a mid-century feel.

The lamps sit tucked among the glass tiers, and the central bowl gathers their light and directs it downward. The result is a soft ambient glow overhead with a gentler pool of light beneath. Amber reads best under warm lamps: at 2700K it turns a deep golden honey, while cooler bulbs leave it looking dull and brown. Since tinted glass reduces output, choose brighter lamps when hanging it over a table, and add separate task lighting above a kitchen island or desk.

Details

Materials: hand-blown amber glass discs and center bowl; solid brass ring, chain and canopy with hidden hardware

Finish: unlacquered brass that gradually warms to a deeper patina

60 cm: 60 cm (23.6") wide x 28 cm (11") high, six lights, about 18 kg (40 lb)

80 cm: 80 cm (31.5") wide x 28 cm (11") high, nine lights, about 28 kg (62 lb)

95 cm: 95 cm (37.4") wide x 36 cm (14.2") high, twelve lights, about 42 kg (93 lb)

Chain: 50 cm (19.7") solid brass; overall drop is roughly 78 cm (31") for the 60 cm and 80 cm sizes and 86 cm (34") for the 95 cm

Bulbs: E14 sockets (E12 for North America); warm white 2700K LED recommended to keep heat away from the glass; bulbs not included

Installation: hardwired; must be secured to a ceiling joist or reinforced blocking, not a standard electrical box

Ceiling height: the standard chain works over a dining table with ceilings of about 2.4 to 2.6 m (8 to 8.5 ft)

Sizing and Placement

60 cm: tables about 110 to 150 cm (43 to 59"), bedrooms and studies

80 cm: tables about 150 to 200 cm (59 to 79") and living rooms

95 cm: tables about 200 to 250 cm (79 to 98"), larger living rooms and entry halls

Above a table, position the lowest point 75 to 90 cm (30 to 35") over the surface

Care

Turn the fixture off and allow the bulbs to cool before cleaning.
